Why Topanga?
I’ve been asked about the name of my practice, about the meaning of Topanga. For me, Topanga Canyon is more than a place. It is a setting afflicted by tragedies of fire and mudslide for as long as I can remember. It has also always reemerged with it’s natural and ever-evolving beauty intact. To me, it represents the possibility of healing and renewal that can emerge after even the most difficult experiences.
The landscapes that inspire this practice tell a story of resilience. Trails continue through changing terrain. Areas once affected by fire or flood gradually give way to new growth. Nature reminds us that healing is rarely about returning to what once was. Instead, it is about creating the conditions where something new can emerge. This philosophy is woven throughout my work.
Healing doesn’t erase the past—it creates space for new growth.
